Zinful BBQ Sauce

1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
1/2 cup minced onion
2 cloves garlic, grated
1 teaspoon cumin
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1/2 cup Bonterra Zinfandel
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
1/2 cup ketchup

Heat olive oil over medium heat in a medium saucepan. Sauté onion and garlic for 3-4 minutes, until onion is slightly translucent. Add cumin and cayenne to pot and stir to coat the onion. Add brown sugar and wine and stir until sugar is dissolved. Add vinegar and ketchup and bring to a low boil. Adjust heat to maintain a vigorous simmer for 5-7 minutes, until sauce has thickened.

Makes 1/2 pint (recipe doubles easily, although go easy on the cayenne if you do)
