As someone who cares about the planet and strives to make eco-friendly swaps in their daily life, it is important to look at all aspects of your life and see what you can swap in and out.

One of the areas in your everyday life that can have a huge impact on the planet is the food and drinks that you consume. We often tend to not think about what the food and drinks are made out of, how those ingredients are grown, how they are transported to each facility and then the grocery store. All of those have an impact on the planet. A way to take a sustainable stance is to, after you finish using all of the product, swap it out for a product that is sustainably made.

After taking a close look at what I was consuming, I realized that a swap I can make is swapping the wine I normally buy to sustainably made wine. That’s when I found Bonterra wine. Bonterra is Regenerative Organic Certified, Certified Climate Neutral, Certified B Corp, and TRUE Zero Waste. From the soil that grows the grapes to implementing zero waste strategies to measuring their CO2E from start to finish, they have thought of all the sustainable aspects. When I am staring at that wine wall in the grocery store, I am choosing Bonterra because I know my dollar is going to supporting the planet. If you prefer to shop from the comfort of your home, you can buy wine online directly from Bonterra.

Being conscious of our planet doesn’t end when we get the product, that’s why one of my favorite things is to figure out how to upcycle the packaging to reduce the amount of waste sent to the landfill. After drinking Bonterra’s delicious wine, you are left with the most adorable wine bottles and corks. There are endless options other than throwing them out. You can upcycle them to make your space feel better, have a beautiful practical item, giving the bottle and corks a second life.

Here are 3 creative ways to upcycle your wine bottles & corks:

1. Take your wine bottles to the bulk section: After saving your empty wine bottles, go to your nearest bulk store. You can use the empty wine bottles as a way to fill them up with all the liquid things you would get at the bulk section. Then take them home and use the bottle to store the liquid product. For example, you can fill it up with olive oil, honey, soap, and so many more!

2. Turn your wine bottles into decor: Grab a glass of Bonterra wine, it’s time to get crafty! Your empty glass wine bottle can be painted, written on with a paint pen, or used as is to hold flowers. The bottle is the perfect shape and adds a classy uplevel to your space. Pro tip: for a mat finish, mix your paint with baking soda!

3. Collect your wine corks for decorative labels: Gather all of your wine corks and stick a toothpick in them. Write what you are wanting to label on the wine cork with a marker and you have a unique label. These work great for gardens, charcuterie boards, dietary restriction, types of wine, herbs & more!

On my online platform Happy Earth Habits, I strive to be a beacon of positivity and stress-free eco-friendly encouragement for many. Giving tips, tricks and habits that you can easily do to help support the planet. Talking imperfect sustainability as its all about every change, no matter how small, adds up to a planet that’s breathing a little easier.
